After the first day of the German Intercrosse League one [...]

After the first day of the German Intercrosse League one can foresee, it is going to be an exciting seaoson 2011.

That is mainly because of the Essen Eagles joined as the 5th team.

They started with a win against Bad Marienberg (24-15) but lost against the Bumble Bees from Ratingen (9-17) and the L.A. Panthers (8-20)

Mentionable was the increased teamplay of the Eagles, which has improved a lot from earlier tournaments.

The hosts from Bad Marienberg have not been more successfull. They lost their 3 mtaches against L.A. Panthers (8-18), Essen Eagles (15-24) and Brackwede (10-19). This happend mostly because of their new goalkeeper. He just strated few weeks before and could not stand against the experienced field players of the others teams. Of course there is no need to criticize the newcmer and we wish him good luck for his intercrosse future.

The CVJM Brackwede can satisfied . They achieved a win against Bad Marienberg but lost against the Bumble Bees (10-24). Just the number of counter goals against Ratingen could have been avoided.

Really positive was the number of players from Brackwede. When they had problems in the past to supply an entire team, they came this time with 9 players.

After the first match day 2011 are the teams from Brackwede and Essen both with 3 points on the second place. The rivals; L.A. Panthers and Bumble Bees, started both with two wins into and are therefore both on the top of the ranking with 6 points. Bad Marienberg could not collect any points on this day and are on the last place.

But so far is everthing possible.

On the second Panthers Cup in the small town Langenberg(Velbert) [...]

On the second Panthers Cup in the small town Langenberg(Velbert) gathered 9 teams from Italy(2), France(2), Czech Republic(2) and Germany(3). Therefore this was, except for the World Games, the biggest Intercrosse tournament in Germany. After month of preparations the tournament started on Saturday morning as scheduled.

At first the teams played everyone vs. everyone, in two groups, . The first team of the L.A. Panthers dominated the first group with 4 wins (12 points), followed by the Prague Stars (9 points), St.Julien (6 points), Red Hawks (3 points) and the unlucky German Mix-Team (0Points). They lost two of four matches by just one goal less and had actually a better goal difference than Red Hawks.

In the second group, which consisted only 4 teams, was guided by Vercurago Victory (9 points). Second was LCJM (6 points). The second team of the Panthers reached the third place, just because they had a better goal difference than Frangy. In the match of this two teams, Panthers2 mostly controlled the young team from France, but failed to get 3 points, because of deficits in scoring.

The match of the tournament was definitely the fight for the final between LCJM and L.A. Panthers1. After the first period, LCJM was already ahead with 5 to 10 goals. But in a haunting second period, the host’s accomplished the unexpected; 11:11 after regular time. So they had to keep playing for 5 more minutes, in which no spectator could keep sitting. While the entire playing system of LCJM was focused on the Czech national player Jacub Novacek, the Panthers continued with their team play attitude. 7 seconds before final whistle, the result was 15 to 15, Sebastian Krabbe managed to take the ball right in front of the opponent goal. Blocked by a defense player, he decided to pass the ball to his moved up teammate Dominik Drese, who scored the key goal within the last seconds. The players from Langenberg could not contain their joy and celebrated the entry to the final right on the playing field. The second semi final was clearly won by Vercurago against Prague Stars with 10:4.

After a great Saturday night, the Sunday started with the first positioning matches. Because there were 9 participating teams, the groups had to be imbalanced. To avoid 1 team playing only on saturday, the last 2 of group 1 (Red Hawks and Mix-Team) and the last group 2 (Frangy), formed another group. The Saturday match of Red Hawks vs. Mix-Team (15:14) already counted for the ranking. So the Red Hawks dominated the group after winning against Frangy (20:11). Frangy also lost the second game vs. Mix-Team and therefore finished the tournament on the 9th place, followed by Mix-Team(8th) and Red Hawks(7th).

St. Julien won the game for rank 5 against Panthers2 with an explicit 10:3. In a close match Prague Stars lost against their Czech friends from LCJM in the small final after extension of a period.

In the final, which took three instead of two (12min) periods, the Panthers encountered their rival Vercurago Victory from Italy. The first and second duration was almost equal for both teams, but the Italian team dominated the last 12 minutes and won the game well-deserved with 17 to 20. But this was an ambitions match, with many tactical devices, in which the German team could have win as well, if they scored better.

On the award ceremony were, additional to the regular cups and certifications, some special awards distributed. The award for the “Best Referee“, chosen by all participating teams, went to Sebastian Krabbe from Langenberg. The Panthers wanted to show the importance of the referees and reward this unthankful task. The “Best Defense” award was given to Vercurago Victory, for the fewest goals against their team. The last award, the “Panthers Award“, was reserved to honor something or someone special during the tournament. It went to Frangy, where Eloi and Isabel Barralon created a new team of youngsters, with a lot of potential. This work is essential for Intercrosse, to move our sport to the next generation(s).

The year is almost over and it’s time for the [...]

The year is almost over and it’s time for the last tournament: the „christmas cup“ in prague. This time not only the L.A.Panthers, but also six players of Uni Trier went on a journey to Czech Republic to join their very first tournament. Although they had to make use of public transport and traveled 12hours, the long journey payed off. With the aid of three czech players they just reached the 10th place (out of 12) but got a lot of new experiences.

The games were at the highest stage, especially the team from italy convincend. The already strong team from Vecurago Victory was supported by the two scaccabarozzi brothers. They only lost the final game against the czech team LCJM. In their opinion the failure of the referees was deciding.

Apart from the usual positive aspects – meals, playing schedule, party in the evening – there was one negative aspect as well. The organizers changed the international rules, so it wasn’t allowed to defend in the crease but to take the ball out of it. The reasons for these changes are still unknown. Another fact that should be improved is that most of the players who also play Lacrosse are more used to these rules. The referees should pay more attention to the fair play that represents Intercrosse. The IVD will get in contact with the FIIC to discuss both points and hopefully find a good solution for both sites.

In spite of the underachievement of the german team, AnnikaLohmann received an award as 3rd „Best Female Scorer“ and Dominik Drese even for „Best Male Scorer“.

The German Intercrosse Association is glad to inform that there [...]

The German Intercrosse Association is glad to inform that there will be a tournament this summer with European National Teams, in spite of the cancellation of the world cup. The IVD Cup will take place on the 30th of July through the 1st of August, (the weekend before the World Games), in Ratingen.

The publicity and successful participation by the German national teams for this year’s World Cup should have helped the German Intercrosse Association. However after the cancellation of the World Cup, both female and male players of the official national teams were disappointed and unenthusiastic. “This last year we had regular trainings for choosing the players and improving the skills of the national team. At the beginning every player was really motivated but after the cancellation there was a little crisis,” said Sebastian Krabbe, the current coach of the male national team, responsible for advanced Intercrosse education and training as a member of the IVD Association. “Fortunately this was just short- lived. As we started the organisation for the IVD-Cup, the motivation returned.”

With Ratingen as the venue of the IVD Cup and the World Games, the IVD hopes to use synergistic effects for the organisation and also to organize an attractive event for players and viewers. Further details of the IVD Cup will follow soon.

Unfortunately the World Cup 2010 has been canceled. Although it [...]

Unfortunately the World Cup 2010 has been canceled. Although it was obvious to all German Intercrosse players that 1 year to organize is not much time, we still proceeded with the challenge. But in spite of all the efforts, in the end just 3 nations registered for this event. If the reason for canceling was because of a lack of money or players, both allude to a bad situation with international Intercrosse. What is the FIIC going to do to avoid a similar situation in the future? It is certain that the IVD will still establish Intercrosse, due to commitment and teamwork, at least in Germany.

Here is the official statement of the managing –committee about what happened to cause the cancellation:

Dear German Intercrosse players,

Regretfully we have to inform you today that the World Cup 2010 in Germany has been canceled.

In agreement with the world association FIIC, we decided to cancel this event because at the deadline, March 15th, just 3 nations with national teams had registered. Of course this number of teams is too little to organize a challenging, sporting competition, and it would not have been financially feasible.

The managing committee of the IVD shares your disappointment about this cancellation and at this point we want to thank those who worked for and helped to promote the project “World Cup 2010”.

As well we want to say thank you to the female and male Intercrosse players in Germany who engaged themselves with a lot of commitment for building and forming the national teams ( players as well as coaches). Because we are thrilled at the level of your commitment, we have decided to try and give our national teams a chance to compete with other national teams. For that purpose we are going to invite some national teams the weekend before the World Games. Because we are still organizing this event, we cannot give official information about the tournament yet. But this information will be forth-coming soon.

Best Regards

The managing-committee of the IVD

Looking forward to the upcoming events, World Games 2010 and World Cup 2010, Mike Linde, in co-oparation with L.A.Panthers, directed an intercrosse video, to show the world what intercrosse is about. It took him hours and hours to direct, shoot and edit the clip. The result is curtly 2 minutes full of intercrosse action.

The intercrosse community hopes for more attention and interest in the sport. Not only for getting new players but also for sponsors. Sadly the IVD is still looking for supporters, making the mainevents in upcoming summer possible.
